Relay for Life

I don’t need to remind you that this year at Stevenson has been über busy for me. (Read below posts to catch up.)

In addition to graduation, 61 days away by the way, I am excited to be participating in Stevenson’s first Relay for Life event on April 15 from 6pm until 6am April 16 in the Owings Mills Gymnasium.

The Student Government has put together a team, and we’re hoping to raise $1000. A little far from the end goal right now, however, we are sponsoring a Student vs. Faculty Basketball game – March Madness Throwdown on March 31 at 7pm in the Owings Mills Gymnasium. Non-athletic students will square off against faculty and admin in a fun little game. Admission is $2 at the door for spectators.

Yours truly created the logo to be display on the back of the players t-shirts.

Relay for Life events can have a theme for the night. This year’s theme is Cartoons. (Again, yours truly selected theme).

Embracing the 1990s, the Student Government will be POKEMON. Being a total nerd myself, I am completely stoked. I plan to dress the part, carry Pokeballs and the like. The SGA’s during event fundraiser will most likely be a a Pokemon Stadium (N64) tournament. Various SGA members will be “Gym Leaders” and hand out “Gym Badges” to those willing to pay a price (probably $2) and beat us in this simple Pokemon battle game.

Relay for Life is an event that hopes to raise money for cancer research and quality of life programs. The SGA’s own Executive Vice President, and President Elect for 2011/2012, Nick Farano was a cancer survivor himself. Nick is one of my best friends. Without him I couldn’t imagine my Senior Year. It would be 100% different. So I relay for Nick.
